Ask your friends for a good "Meat and 3". That's usually good homestyle cooking! The above list is a really good start though. And I guess you might include "Cracker Barrell"... if you're really desperate for something "Southern" and don't have time to find a more nuanced restaurant like the ones above!

Just about any meat-n-three should satisfy your tastes.

Take a look at:
- Bishop's Meat & 3 - Cool Springs
- Loveless Cafe - Pasquo/Franklin (Hwy. 100 near Natchez Trace)
- Monell's - 8th Ave. S (carry-out only) or 6th Ave N (all-you-can-eat dine-in)
- Arnold's Country Kitchen - 8th Ave S around Division St. (only open for weekday lunch)
- The Pie Wagon - Division St. (only open for lunch)
- Dairy King - East Thompson Lane near Murfreesboro Road -- eat-in at the hole-in-the-wall building next to the hair salon or take it with you with the to-go stand next door. AWESOME FRIED CHOCOLATE PIES!
- Elliston Place Soda Shop - Elliston Place near Baptist Hospital
- Swett's - Farmer's Market or Clifton Ave (original location)

Have your health insurance handy, because these places use more than enough butter and grease to clog your arteries in one sitting... but it's worth it. And also, be prepared -- many of these locations are cash only.

And, of course, if you have to have a chain restaurant, we have Cracker Barrel restaurants everywhere.
